You’re living the stereotypical American Dream, Just Be Happy!

Comments are off for this post.

If you are like me, you’ve heard the words “Just Be Happy” nearly a million times from almost everyone you know. They just don’t get it! But if you’re completely honest you probably don’t fully “Get It” yourself. It’s not about wanting more Stuff, or being Uber Rich, there’s more to it than that. So what is it? What is it that you want?

“Find out what it is you want, and go after it as if your life depends on it, WHY? Because it does.” Les Brown

The American Dream

Like me, you probably have a beautiful wife, some awesome kids, a nice house, a good job/career and life for the most part is good. I’ll take it even a step further and say you are living “The American Dream.” Life didn’t completely “just happen” to you. You planned, You worked hard and You made it happen. Most days you feel great about your accomplishments and your ability to adequately provide for your family. You think back to where you were and all the challenges and failures you had to overcome to get to where you are now. You’ve made some power plays and worked your way up in your company. Some might say “you have arrived” and in the eyes of your friends and family you are successful.

But to you, Something is missing. Somewhere deep down there is a little voice that is saying, “I’m capable of so much more.” Its that Something that is tugging at your core and the desire to answer back is burning inside of you. You’ve tried to ignore it but you can’t, it’s calling you, it’s asking you to bring it to life. Every time you look at that Something and say to yourself, “I can do that better” or “Why hasn’t someone thought of this, yet.” It’s that Something that only you see the solution for and only you can introduce it into the world. So why haven’t you? I know why… It’s Not Easy. You’re standing at a cross road and you have to decide between Safety (What You Know) and Self-Actualization (The Unknown). The safety of employment, a steady paycheck, health insurance and providing for your family over that burning desire to pursue your dream, to build that Something, to Leave Your Mark on this world. I Get It… It’s not easy, but you have to decided.

DECIDE who you’re going to be. There’s a redemptive power that making a choice has rather than feeling like you’re an effect to all the things that are happening. Make a choice. Just DECIDE what it’s going to be, who you’re going to be, how you are going to do it. Just DECIDE. And from that point, the universe will get out of your way.” – Will Smith
